Recognizing and Treating Domestic Abuse

In response to the rising number of incidents of domestic abuse, Dr. Amitai Ziv, director of MSR, presented a program developed in collaboration with Israel's Ministry of Health and the Jewish Federation of New-York, aimed at training health care professionals in recognizing and treating domestic abuse.  The course includes a variety of scenarios relating to abuse of children, elderly, and women.  Simulated patients (actors) proactively expose the trainees to issues such as physical abuse, emotional abuse, sexual abuse, financial abuse, and neglect.  These encounters, along with the opportunity to analyze the taped sessions with a professional debriefing staff, enable the trainees to improve their ability to identify warning signs and to effectively communicate in the most sensitive manner possible.
