Challenging Situations in the Delivery Room

Target Population:

Objectives:
The objective of this course is to improve the communication and clinical skills required in the delivery room and the management of Ob-Gyn emergencies, and discuss medical legal issues in patient care.

Course Description:
Participants encounter simulated (actors) who are ob-gyn patients or their immediate family and Ob-Gyn patient simulators in scenarios focusing on various issues surrounding ob-gyn emergencies; informed consent; patient safety management; and how to deliver bad news.  Colleagues and debriefing facilitators observe the encounters through one-way glass panels, and audiovisual recordings are made for the debriefing sessions.  On completion of the encounter or the scenario, the participant receives feedback from the simulated patient,  and from colleagues and debriefing facilitators. The recorded encounter is watched and discussed in the debriefing session.
