Challenging Situations in the Delivery Room

Target Audience:
Residents in Ob-Gyn, midwives, and obstetric department teams.

Objectives:
The objective of this course is to improve the level of communication and clinical skills required in the delivery room, and the management of Ob-Gyn emergencies.  Medical legal issues in patient care are also covered in this course.

Course Description:
Participants encounter simulated patients –actors- who play the roles of ob-gyn patients and their immediate family in scenarios focusing on various issues related to ob-gyn emergencies. For example, obtaining informed consent; patient safety management; and delivering bad news.

Colleagues and debriefing facilitators observe the encounters through one-way glass window and audiovisual recordings are made for the debriefing sessions.  Upon completion of the encounter the participant receives feedback from the simulated patient, and from colleagues and debriefing facilitators. The recorded encounter is watched and discussed in the debriefing session.
