Advanced Crisis Resources Management in the Treatment of Patients with Respiratory Failure


Target Population:
Medical teams including physicians and nurses from high dependency medical and trauma units

Objectives:

By course completion, participants are expected to recognize the signs and symptoms of respiratory failure; demonstrate the use of various airway and oxygen adjuncts; identify methods for airway control and optimum ventilation, including non-invasive ventilation and various modes of positive pressure ventilation.  Emphasis is placed on aspects of crisis resources management in patients with acute respiratory failure.

Course Description:

A number of cases using full-body patient simulators are presented and advanced audio-visual equipment is used to create a realistic environment complete with sound effects.  On completion of the scenarios, the participants receive feedback from colleagues and instructors who observed the session, and the recorded scenario is watched and discussed in the debriefing session.
