Clinical Skills in Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care

Target Population: Pediatricians from HMOs and public hospitals Objectives: This course is a continuation of the Enhancement of Communication Skills in Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care course.  It further develops communication skills and methods for delivering bad news in the pediatric and neonatal environments.  In addition, the course also includes the development of specialist pediatric manual skills such as pediatric resuscitation and umbilical vein catheterization. Course Description: The course is given in collaboration with the Israeli Pediatric Society.  Pediatricians are exposed to nine scenarios, all simulations of real-life situations.  The specialized pediatric manual skills are also developed these hands-on encounters.  Colleagues and debriefing facilitators observe the encounters through one-way glass panels, and audiovisual recordings are made for the debriefing sessions.  On completion of the encounter, the participant receives written feedback from the simulated patient, colleagues and debriefing facilitators, who observed the session, and the recorded encounter is watched and discussed in the debriefing session. Participants interact with and treat pediatric simulated patients (actor) in simulations of real-life situations.  Colleagues and debriefing facilitators observe the encounters through one-way glass panels, and audiovisual recordings are made for the debriefing sessions.  On completion of the scenarios, the participants receive feedback from colleagues and instructors who observed the session, and the recorded scenario is watched and discussed in the debriefing session.
