Communication Skills in Pediatric and Neonatal Intensive Care

Target Population:
Pediatricians from HMOs and public hospitals

Objectives:
The focus of this course is the development of communication skills and methods for delivering bad news in the pediatric and neonatal environments.

Course Description:
The course is given in collaboration with the Israeli Pediatric Society.  Pediatricians are exposed to nine scenarios, all simulations of real-life situations.  Colleagues and debriefing facilitators observe the encounters through one-way glass panels, and audiovisual recordings are made for the debriefing sessions.  On completion of the encounter, the participant receives feedback from the simulated patient, colleagues and debriefing facilitators and the recorded encounter is watched and discussed in the debriefing session.
