Clinical and Communication Skills for Performing an
Intimate Physical Exam

Target Population:
Medical students

Objectives:
The course focuses on physician-patient communication and clinical skills required to perform an intimate physical exam including rectal, testicular, gynecological, and breast exams.

Course Description:
Participants improve technical and clinical skills on task trainers and once the participant is familiar with the task trainer they encounter simulated patients (actors) in scenarios focusing on informed consent, and patient safety management.  Colleagues and debriefing facilitators observe the encounters through one-way glass panels, and audiovisual recordings are made for the debriefing sessions.  On completion of the encounter, the participant receives feedback from the simulated patient, colleagues and debriefing facilitators and the recorded encounter is watched and discussed in the debriefing session.
