Introduction to Safe Clinical Practice

Target Population:
Medical school graduates entering internship program

Objectives:
The objective of this course is to expose interns to challenging clinical conditions and to enhance their competency in handling complex communication encounters with patients.

Course Description:
This is an obligatory course required by the Ministry of Health and the Deans' Committee of Medical Schools in Israel. This 5 day intensive preparation course includes practice of basic clinical skills, emergency medicine skills, and doctor-patient communication using simulated patients (actors). Colleagues and debriefing facilitators observe the encounters through one-way glass panels, and audiovisual recordings are made for the debriefing sessions.  On completion of the encounter, the participant receives oral feedback from the simulated patient, colleagues and debriefing facilitators, who observed the session, and the recorded encounter is watched and discussed in the debriefing session.
