Clinical and Communication Skills Management of Diabetic Patients

Target Audience:
Physicians and nurses working with diabetic patients

Objectives:
The objective of this course is to improve physician-patient communication skills, and discuss medical legal issues surrounding patient care.

Course Description:
Participants encounter simulated patients (actors) or their immediate family in scenarios focusing on how to communicate with challenging patients (e.g. demanding, non cooperative); informed consent, and patient safety management. Scenarios in this workshop deal with topics ranging from the different roles of nurses and physicians in patient education and patient choices in pharmacological treatments, to coping with multiple physical complaints. Colleagues and debriefing facilitators observe the encounters through one-way glass panels.  Upon completion of the encounter, the participant receives feedback from the simulated patient, colleagues and debriefing facilitators, while watching the recorded session.
