Crisis Resources Management for Trauma Teams

Target Population:
Trauma teams including surgeons, anesthesiologists, emergency room physicians, and nurses working in the trauma unit, the emergency department, the operating room, and the intensive care unit.

Objectives:
By course completion, participants are expected to recognize the signs and symptoms of a hemodynamically unstable patient; demonstrate the use of various airway and oxygen adjuncts; identify methods for airway control and optimum ventilation; utilize fluids and pharmacological agents to stabilize the patient; and demonstrate knowledge and skills as a team member and team leader.  The course focuses on resources management, leadership and teamwork in patient management.

Course Description:
Training focuses on the work of organic, multi-disciplinary teams of doctors and nurses using task trainers and full-body physiological mannequins that react to pain and medicine.  The teams alternate between participation in, and viewing of realistic medical scenarios complete with sound effects and decor. A customized audiovisual system and one-way glass enable real-time observation of the scenarios. Viewing of the recorded material allows effective debriefing and constructive feedback to trainees.
