BLS - Basic Life Support Instructors

Target Population:
Nurses

Objectives:
This course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills required to teach the Basic Life Support course.  By course completion, participants will be able to teach how to apply life support skills including CPR, ventilation with a barrier device or  bag-mask device, and oxygen for patients of all ages.  Participants will also be able to teach the use of an automated external defibrillator (AED), and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (FBAO).

Course Description:
With the use of full-body physiological mannequins and simulated patients, the staff present cases in small group teaching stations.  Individuals alternate between participation in, and viewing of realistic medical situations (scenarios).  A customized audiovisual system and one-way glass enable real-time observation of the scenarios. Viewing of the recorded material allows effective debriefing and constructive feedback to trainees.
