Adult Sedation Safety


Target Population:
Physicians who are not anesthesiologists and nurses who are involved in the care of patients undergoing sedation
 
Objectives:
By course completion, participants will be able to recognize and treat patient's pain and anxiety during medical procedures, acquire the information and strategies needed to prevent and treat adverse effects associated with medication administered to prevent pain and anxiety, and the cognitive and psychomotor skills needed to monitor and stabilize patients during sedation.
 
Course Description:
Participants interact and treat advanced simulators and simulated patients (actors) in simulations of real-life situations.  Colleagues and debriefing facilitators observe the encounters through one-way glass panels.  Upon completion of the encounter, the participant receives feedback during the debriefing session from colleagues and debriefing facilitators, while observing an audiovisual recording of the session.
